  1. Every Day is Mother's Day


    In India, every day is a mother’s day. Hinduism recognizes that the entire creation emanates from the Mother. The Hindu child grows up in a religious and loving atmosphere. A strong attachment is built up between the mother and child. This bond is eternal and persists into old age. The mother's blessings are regarded as a necessity, for progress by her children in all walks of life. For example, when a child leaves the house he or she touches their mother's feet and on return does the same.

    In the same way that a Hindu worships his God, he also worships his mother. In her old age she is protected and cared by her own children. It is considered a duty resulting in bountiful blessing.

  2. Hinduism and the Mother


    In India, the Mother is considered to be the sum total of the energy in the universe. The volumes upon volumes of Hindu scriptures describe the Mother as the source of all. India is the only country in the world today where the Mother remains widely worshiped in an unbroken lineage that goes back in time thousands of year.

    Hindu scriptures elaborate upon countless goddess legends and prescribe rituals and guidelines for loving a life steeped in dedication to the Great Mother, or Shakti. She is known to be the activity in all things, the great power that creates and destroys, the primordial essence, the womb from which all things proceed and into which all things return.

    Kali, Kali, Malta Main (Great Mother of creation, preservation, and destruction)
    Lakshmi Devi (goddess, Mother of wealth and beauty)
    Kamala
    Parvati
    Aditi
    Gayatri
    Shakti
    Saraswati Ma (goddess, Mother of learning, speech, and the arts)
    Shaktimayi Amma (Mother, the primal feminine force)
    Durga, Durga, Maha Maya (warrior, Mother of the great illusory power of the universe)
    Para Shakti (all-pervading feminine force)
